They cut the actual length separated it and welded on two pieces of 1 inch angle iron over a 80 inch gap and spot welded one place on each of the angle irons when I arrived home with the trailer the axle is bent by 3 inches from side to side the events inside coverings were missing and the roof vents were installed crooked or a new event could not be purchased and installed I ordered extra heavy duty sighting and what was installed was very thin aluminum sheeting 3 mil thickness the door latch was put in upside down where are the bolt locking mechanism would not work I asked Huskie for repairs and was totally ignored it cost me $350 to fix what they had done incorrectly they literally suck at building trailers and customer service

So many people got scammed by these people but NOBODY is doing anything about it?!? I was lucky enough to dispute the charge on my American Express for my deposit BUT I sold my Pace trailer a week before this was SUPPOSED to be ready...naturally ended up going weeks before find out out about the SCAM.

Why isn't ANYTHING being done about Michael and his Father Charles Gatewood??? I hear they are building trailers AGAIN under a different name!!!

Horrible experience with this company on my second trailer. Trailers are priced right but I have since found out why. Everything is half *** the aluminum on the sides gets eaten through in less then a year. The floor in mine was not even screwed down place is/was a joke and of course all the warranties they give you don't mean a *** thing if your out of business.

14 ft cargo trailer custom

Just a bunch of junk!!! I got a 14 ft with 6.6 ft head room and .030 sides along with tandem axels and one pieace aluminum top. 16inch OC side and bottom frames. Torshen axels that hit the frame any movement. The whole Trailer is *** and had to modify it, even frame rusted in two months. They went bankrupt after I took delivery 2 months after there late delay. Now so many problems and they should be under Arrest for stealing from customers!! They deliberate frauded the customer and many I am told never received their Trailer after 50% down Payment. To me That's defraud and a Felony and all involved should be arrested and stand trial. Hopefully this article is correct. Florida State Attorney investigating them, however this 'investigative reporter' didn't do her homework, she failed to mention the Gatewoods already have ANOTHER trailer place open AND that they have pulled this scam before under different company names.

Holy shyte! Hopefully you and your wife are okay. I know your nerves are probably shot.

So folks. I got a certified letter in the mail from "Leg-A-C, LLC" yesterday. Be on the lookout because if you have a trailer that's "done" you're probably going to get one soon (or have already).

No formal stationery...just a 5 second type job where they are slapping in whoever's name...type signed "best regards" from "LW Liquidation Department." Called the number and got "Chris Johnson." Lucky me....I can still pay the FULL PRICE for my trailer, pick it up, and not have a warranty.

Fair warning. If you get this letter and decide to get your trailer, take another look at the pictures of this fifth wheel. I'm sure there are lots of people that worked hard and did quality work for Husky over the years, but I'd be nervous as heck buying a trailer made in the late days of a closing business (again, without a warranty or legal remedy).

Sad part is that these trailers, made in the late days of Husky Cargo, are going to end up on the roads somehow/some way.

As many have said or implied, karma is a *** I hope all those involved with robbing us feel karma's wrath. And to the former company owners who are likely monitoring this stuff (likely amused by some of it), you'll be lucky (and getting off easy) if you don't get someone killed.

This post is from an employee in 2012 showing a pattern of Michael Gatewood AND his father pulling this same PONZI scehem as Hurricane Cargo in Georgia:

#64 Jul 27, 2012

When is someone going to do something about these people. I've talked to alot of officials and they said they would get right on it. I know it takes time to get the ball rolling, but *** these people are crooks and that place is working people 50hrs a week and some of them grossed a little over 300 dollars last week and they're selling trailers out the back door illegally. Not to mention that most of their *** is on consignment and they're going to leave alot of companies holding the bag. W.T. Howell; there is a *** good reason why Lippert Components Inc. will not even deal with them and they supply almost everybody. I mean come on enough is enough. I know about a month ago they were $50,000 dollars behind with ya'll. Gatewood's daddy told me himself they were $200,000 in the red. They don't even do inventory. When I mentioned it I got run off. I thought I was trying to help. When I got there it was almost a daily occurance that we'd build duplicate trailers. They don't even stamp the serial number in the weld shop. Before Alfred Harrell worked there a week they didn't even have a production board. He set it up and Mike Gatewood would come behind him and shuffle the board around until Alfred just got so frustrated that he quit. He and me had just left a company that we had built from the ground up and he was not going to put up with fixing another one a watch abunch of *** tear it apart. I thought he just had a bad taste in his mouth from CW. Little did I know that he still knows more than me and he didn't need to get run off he quit. Enough is Enough.

Guest

PROOF this scam has been going on LONG before this and that MICHAEL GATEWOOD was and always has been the owner:

"I ordered the a 48' enclosed trailer back in May 2014 for a sum of $27,956.00. It was outfitting to the fullest, hence the price.

Its been a dream of mine to get something like this when I started my business 15 years ago as a young adult. I called Husky Cargo and paid deposit of $6850.00. They called me 8 weeks later and said it was ready. Beforehand I had asked for pictures which they supplied.

I drove all the way up to their previous location in GA to find a trailer that was crooked from the front to the end (think about the shape of a banana).

At this point I did not feel it was correct to take home a trailer that was not able to drive home safely. My dream trailer was quickly becoming a nightmare - I refused to take the trailer at the time, with promises from Husky that they would correct the finished trailer, build me a new trailer or refund me my money. I was assured by the head guy at the shop said they would fix it.

I know how these things work it needed to be rebuilt. 2 weeks later I get a call from the owner Mike Gatewood (Aug. 2014) telling me he will build me a new trailer because he can't give me my money back. Then on Oct.

14 Mike tells me he hasn't started it yet, I said that's fine my business is now hurting because I needed this trailer for events and if he could please just give me my money back. At this point he said he could not until he sells the original crooked trailer. I was still being as patient as possible, at the time I asked to show evidence of ads posted to sell the original trailer. I asked this because I would like to keep track and expedite a future trailer purchase as not having a trailer was becoming a very bad issue for our company.

I did not receive a response (Dec 14). I have now lost all communication with owner, he will not respond to any communication method. I attempt to get a hold of someone at their location and was informed that that trailer sold.

At this time requested my money and the accounting lady informs me that she will contact me later with payment information.

Now more than 2 month later and over 7 months since the original order date - I have no trailer or money. We have filled a police report and of course its ongoing.

PLEASE anyone think twice about doing business with these people PLEASE read my story I am a hard working business owner and this trailer situation with this company has left me with empty pockets and unfilled promises."

Husky Cargo - Rip off company!!!!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS with these people. They have done this before in GA. They rack up customers and get their deposits and just fold up shop and disappear and then open another business doing the same thing somewhere else. They got me for $1500. After numerous calls and emails with no response, I went to Bartow and tried to see what was going on. The place is chained up so you cant get in. There are people inside because you can see there are doors open and the lights are on, but no one will come to the gate. There is a bogus letter on the fence. Good luck getting your money back. Mine is gone.

No Customer Service

I bought a trailer from Husky Cargo. I paid half down and was told it would be ready in 4-6 weeks. It took 3 months. At week 5 I called and learned only that it wasn't ready, no idea of when it would be. After 6 weeks I still had no answers. I started calling every couple of days. They only answered the phone a couple of times or returned my calls and didn't give me any answers. I talked to the plant manager once who was rude and insulting. I finally got a call that it SHOULD be ready on a certain day. I started my 1500 mile trip with only a hope that I had a trailer. I called all the way there to make sure it was ready. Of course I got no answer. My trailer was ready but the spare tire was missing and the stabilizers were put on backwards. Two days after I got I home, I got an email that the company had been seized by its creditors.

I had a very similar issue. I ordered my trailer on 3/12/2015 and it was to take a couple weeks to complete.

After a few weeks, I started asking questions because nobody was returning calls and people were leaving the company. I kept getting promises that my build was about to start, but it seemed like I was getting the blow off. On 7/1/2015, I was told my frame went to the welding shop for the build process, should only be about 4 to 5 days to complete. On 7/16/2015, I received an email stating that the company was in receivership for non-payment of bills.

The email I received contained a number to call in regards to my money/trailer status and to call and leave a message. As instructed, I called and left a VM for a call back. Further investigation on my part determined that Dexter Axles filed a motion in Polk County for their credit issues. I also heard that the Sheriff had secured the location as well.

The next day, I received a call, informing me that because my trailer was partially built, it would be completed as contracted within a few more days, as they were waiting on supplies to complete my trailer (my trailer was ordered with a multi-color outside + aluminum diamond plate ATP rock protection around the bottom as a skirt as well, causing the added delays). A few days later, I was contacted to pickup the trailer, I live about 2 hours away from the plant and I had to bring cash at pickup. Upon arrival, I found the trailer to be in good overall condition with a few minor exceptions. I ordered the inside floor to be pressure treated flooring because I use kayaks - this was omitted from my order.

The trailer was also missing the spare tire, the ramp flap and no tag light was installed on the trailer. For this, they worked out the missing cost of these items and offered me several items in exchange, making the sale good in my eyes. (I was given about $600 in E-track and cargo securing products as well as a tongue lock and was handed the flap that was supposed to me installed, which I installed myself after the sale. I was one of the very lucky ones, in a very bad situation.

I do like my trailer and have had not had any issues with my trailer as far as structural integrity, skins, towing/tracking issues or any other problems. (it's been a year so far) I know there's no warranty of any kind from a defunct company, but they built a solid trailer.

I am hoping my luck with this stays the same and will not need to regret having not had any warranty.

I got a personal loan to pay for trailer which means I get to pay for it whether I receive it or not , or I default and ruin my credit. I called number and automated system to my info. Don't know how to get in touch with creditors.

Husky Cargo - Car Hauler Trailer Review from Punta Gorda, Florida

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I ordered a car hauler trailer from Husky Cargo, Bartow, Fl., on April 7, 2015, and it was promised to be out the door ready by May 12, 2015. What a joke that is b/c it is now June 12, 2015, and no sign or hopes of getting the trailer, maybe ever. The salesman, Aubrey Nicholson, also required a pre-pay by credit card in the amount of $2500.00 which I trustingly complied to. I had not heard from Husky Cargo after submitting my order so a couple days before pickup date of May 12, I called them. Was told the trailer was not built yet but I was "in line". They were running 1---2 weeks behind due entirely to a strike an axle co was having but they were now back to work. So Chris Pennel, so called "customer service manager" for Husky Cargo, (another joke) wrote me an email soon after my phone call to them, and stated a new pickup date of May 24, 2015. Never heard any more by May 24, so on May 28 I drove up to Bartow, Fl., mainly to just try to find this company so I would know one actually existed. By this time, I was definitely getting very suspicious. We live in SW Fl anyway, so about 1 1/2 hr drive, one way. Finally located it and talked to Chris Pennel. My trailer not started yet, but he promised he would get it moved up on production line and said it would be done by Fri, June 5. Plus he promised to call us by next day, Fri, May 29, and definitely no later than Monday, June 2. We finally felt there was hope! Not so. No call whatsoever and it is now Friday, June 12, a week past Chris Pennel's promised due date. They won't answer my calls either now. I am sure no chance of my credit card co getting my $2500 back either. I have read all 15+ customer reviews I found on this pissed consumer website regarding Husky Cargo, formerly Hurricane Cargo (I read the bad reviews on it too). From the sounds of all those very unhappy customers, I think I will just be better off to eat my $2500 deposit and forget even getting the *** trailer. Why give them the rest of the money when you will most likely end up with a piece of junk you have to spend even more on to make right?!! As much trouble as I've had already with them, I sure wouldn't trust their "warranty" either. My guess it's not worth the paper its printed on. I sure wish I would have researched this company prior to ordering from them. There are so many reports of extremely shoddy workmanship and serious trouble with the product they are pushing. I wouldn't even feel safe pulling their piece of *** on the road. We are leaving on a 1400 mile road trip soon and I wanted to have a trailer but won't now. I hope that anyone thinking about using Husky Cargo reads this and all the other complaints on them before ordering. STEER CLEAR OF HUSKY CARGO unless you want to lose your money plus gain a lot of stress and headaches. It's a crime that companies can do this to people and keep getting by with it. They just keep going under different names. All they want is your money, have questionable workmanship from what I've read, no communication with customer, tell you lie after lie when you do get lucky enough to reach them, and have no integrity or morals whatsoever. I am going to report them to the BBB, even though they are not BBB accredited. Guess that would cost them money. Plus I am going to bring all this to the attn of the States Attys office. These rip-off companies should be stopped immediately before they can swindle any others.

Guess based on what everyone is saying, I shouldn't go because it's probably a wasted trip.

I had to drive the same distance. By any chance is your Trailer white?

Because when we picked up my Trailer a white trailer was besides ours. When you get there the gates are locked, but someone will come out and unlock the gates. They have the gates locked because employees they let go were very upset, but can you blame them.

The representative named Chris helped us. We had no problems.

It all looked legit or I wouldn't have put a deposit of $4650 down.

Husky Cargo=Leg-a-c industries

If you go to the list of Fl. Business entities at SunBiz.com, you will clearly see that Leg-a-c industries llc is operating at the same address as the former Husky Cargo, the principal being Michael Gatewoods fathers Lone Wolf company. Does this man really have the brass to open another company to hide money and steal from people? Would love to know what he plans to sell from this same location. Very likely dump trailers. Buyers beware!!! Same address, same principals, same old business practices. It's now way past the 3000.00 that was stolen from us. It's the principal of someone opening 4 companies in 2 states over the course of two years, for the sole purpose of relieving people of their hard earned money with nothing in return.

Mike Gatewood is now the owner of Aluma Tech as well. The crook shut down Husky and here it is just 2 weeks later and he opens 2 more companies under different names.

Yes, daddy is backing him. You asked if he really has the brass to open 2 more companies to hide money and steal from people. It sure looks like it.

And by the way, according to a former employee, he closed Husky with somewhere around $80,000.00 in the bank. He had enough money to pay back quite a few people he stole from.

Any one who wants to see the Gatewoods come to the Polk County small claims courthouse on Friday November 13th 2015 at 8:45 am.Come and watch him squirm. This is an excellent opportunity to see the face and the mastermind behind all of the ugly things that a person can represent.I know there is a tremendous amount of interest in how it can be possible that someone can defraud people again and again.Come and see the face of the man who took your money and enjoy the way his face looks under the pressure of admission and perjury. If we get lucky he may say enough to be taken out in cuffs.Stay tuned much more to come.

I ordered a trailer 4/22/2015 Expected to be contacted 2nd or 3rd week in June. I called once to ask for paint code, as I wanted to match with tow vehicle. No answer!!! Then I found out the NEWS like all of you had! Still thought they would reorganize (chapter 11?) and there would just be a delay, until I stumbled upon the updated PO reviews. I am out $6,000. and want to see this resolved for all of us. I hope we can as a group file a lawsuit, and GET our money back. I live all the way out in SW Washington state, and have been busy prepping the tow vehicle, buying E track straps, and other anti theft devices for both tow vehicle, and trailer, let alone planning for the BIG TRIP! I am Larry Buck larrybuck34@***.com (360) 606-**** text welcome too. I am trying to get in touch w Bob Hoffman, to see if we can plan a group legal attack to get our money back in a sensible manner. We need to work together!!!

I see where Mike Gatewood is supposedly back in the trailer business. He claims to be Owner of Big Foot Trailers LLC, in Mulberry, Florida 863.589.7616.

Promised custom built HD trailer, nothing happened after paying deposit

March 9th 2015 I called Husky Cargo and ordered enclosed aluminum HD trailer 8,5' x 20' for total $8,500.00 Aubrey Nicholson made proposal. I agreed on price and was assured date of completion May 1st. He said if I pay now deposit $4,000.00 it will be immediately on production line. I complied used credid card and waited. On April 25th I drove to Florida from NYC to pick it after I was told by Aubrey (that time even picked up phone) that it looks good for May 1st. I Stayed at Daytona Beach few days earlier and wanted to have small vacation to use this trip. I visited Husky Cargo at Bartow on Monday April 27th and spoke to Sissy Brown to make sure trailer will be ready by Friday May 1st. Aubrey was not there he had to go to Georgia plant this week... She said she is checking my VIN # and calls me tomorrow. It was large hangar in municipal airport. Strangely no noise I can hear from "production Line" and outside they had 3-4 trailers for customer pick up. I said to my wife at least they exist and we will see. I vent back to Daytona and on Tuesday Sissy called - sorry trailer is two weeks behind schedule, due to axle shortage beyond their control. I cancelled my trip and fuming drove back north 1,200 miles home. After that phone picked up Elisa who replaced Sissy (she said Sissy was fired) and now she stays on top of it. She admitted checking VIN# that my trailer was not even on production line, but it will be now, to be patient. Now I am pissed beyond believe how those people work and after that I was not able get anybody on the phone. On line on Husky website there is form to request production status. I filled that several times - no response. It is smartly done you have no prove that you ever sent this Email. Early this week phone had busy tone I and knew instantly there is a big trouble. This company is absolutely fraud and lies. Working on reportiong it to local police now. I checked Ebay and all their trailers dissapeared too. I lost some money for sure but at least I am not charged for strangling some of them, that would be much worse.

What should we do after the police report has been filed? Take them to small claims court?

We have to organize ourselves better agains HC. Also if someone has has legal know how we need help now.

We should get list of victim, form "Husky Cargo victims" or something like that. This increases our chances to get some justice.

I am still dealing with an issue from this time last year. They built my trailer and then shipped it to me with one of their transport companies......It showed up at my shop smashed and Husky says it isn't their problem!!

They hired a service, paid them, and now I think they are both out of business!! Grrrrr This company is awful!!!
